Millions of people suffer and are unable to see because they do not have the basic necessity of glasses... help us change that.

We have a simple mission: to give more people in the world glasses to see. While this is a trivial quest in a developed country, without economic means or private access, it can be incredibly difficult to obtain glasses for proper vision. Even after cataract surgical expeditions, often people are limited in their final best corrected vision due to a lack of spectacle correction.

Operation Optikos aims to help provide spectacles to individuals, leaders of surgical expeditions, and communities of people, who would otherwise not have this resource for improved vision.

What We’re Doing

Operation Optikos

Founded: 2015, Laura Kingrey

Areas of experience: Spectacle procurement, cataract and corneal transplant missions, surgical scrub tech practice, philanthropy, fundraising.

Surgical Expedition Guayaquil, Ecuador
The founding concept of this nonprofit came as a result of an initial family cataract surgical expedition to Guayaquil, Ecuador. It was there I learned that so many people in the developing world were in need of glasses correction, and I could make a difference.

Surgical Scrub Training Associated Eye Surgical Center
I learned to pass surgical instruments in the United States, so that during cataract and corneal transplant surgery on our missions, I could not only provide spectacles, but also assist in surgeries.

Surgical and Spectacle Mission to Vanua Levu, Fiji
Our team gathered and supplied over 1000 pairs of glasses to the people of Vanua Levu. In addition, we did cataract surgeries and corneal transplants on over 50 people. Our organization screened many patients, and supplied the spectacles for later missions by optometrists.

Spectacle Mission to Puno, Peru
We provided over 800 pairs of glasses to rural Peru.

Spectacle Mission to Reed Island, Lake Titicaca, Peru
We provided over 200 pairs of glasses to inhabitants of reed islands, Lake Titicaca, at the base of the Bolivian Andes.

Surgical Mission to Chifundo, Zambia

Passed surgical instruments to surgeon, assisting with the operations of 70 cataract surgeries.
